WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin State Building Commission has awarded North Central Health Care a $5 million grant to help the facility expand its capacity for inpatient mental health services.
These funds will be used to expand our capacity for inpatient mental health services and alleviate the reliance on state facilities to serve our residents. Families will be able to receive much-needed crisis and acute mental and behavioral health services closer to their home in Central Wisconsin, instead of traveling to state facilities located a greater distance away,” said NCHC’s interim CEO and CFO Jill Meschke in a press release. “NCHC is also able to extend our services to more rural counties, with an additional capacity to serve Forest, Oneida, and Vilas Counties. We look forward to the completion of our renovations over the next year as we approach our 50th year of providing care and services to our residents in Central Wisconsin.”
It’s the latest improvement for the facility which has seen over $70 million in upgrades since 2019. That includes a new aquatic therapy pool, a youth behavioral health facility, and a new skilled nursing facility.
The grant funding was added in an amendment to the 2021-23 State Budget.
