STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Stevens Point Salvation Army is open to volunteers for its upcoming campaign where bell ringers help the organization raise money.
Trisha Steinhorst, Stevens Point Salvation Army Media & Fundraising Manager, said bell ringers play an essential part in fundraising during the holiday season.
All of the money raised goes toward several programs offered through The Salvation Army, that help those in need that utilize the services. Services range from meal assistance, housing assistance and many more.
Steinhorst told WAOW-TV that the need for these services will be greater this year than last. “We’re expecting as a Salvation Army as a whole, not just here but across the nation, the needs to be worse this year than last year because of the government help we had,” Steinhorst said. “With stimulus checks and the unemployment funds, and the hold on people being able to be evicted, that help won’t be around this year.” Right now there are around 1,500 volunteer spots that need to be filled.
New features at each donation post include a place to donate with either a debit or credit card, as well as a separate bell that those who have already donated can ring as a sign of extra support.
The Red Kettle Campaign kickoff will be on November 12 at Metro Market in Park Ridge. The campaign will end on Christmas Eve.
Other incentives will be offered to volunteers, and more information can be found by visiting here, or calling the Stevens Point Salvation Army at (715) 341-2437.
