RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) – A major solar field in Rhinelander is nearing completion.
When finished, it will produce enough electricity to power 1,500 local homes.
Forrest Howk is a project manager for OneEnergy Renewables, the company building the solar field. He says the panels are designed to rotate with the sun and collect solar energy on their undersides. “The single-access tracking helps them produce more. They track with the sun, capture more sun over the course of the day. But then in the wintertime, when the days are shorter, the snow on the ground reflects a lot of light and allows the panels to capture that from the back side.”
The solar field covers about 50 acres, and sits near Lake Julia.
