MANKATO, MN (WSAU) — A big third period lifted the Wisconsin women’s hockey team to a 6-2 win over Minnesota State University, Mankato in WCHA play on Saturday.
The Mavericks got on the scoreboard first just four minutes into the game but Katie Kotlowski would tie things up in the closing minutes with a power play goal and from there it was all Badgers.
Casey O’Brien and Maddie Posick each tallied goals in the second. Then in the third Makenna Webster would net a hat trick to put the game out of reach.
Webster also added an assist earlier in the game. Grace Bowlby recorded two helpers.
Kennedy Blair saved 17 of 19 shots from the Mavericks.
The Badgers sit in second place in the WCHA standings with 22 points out of eight games. Ohio State sits at the top with 25 points out of ten games.
The WCHA has implemented new standings points calculations which award three points for regulation wins and two points for overtime wins. Losses in regulation accumulate no points, and a loss in overtime gains one point.
Wisconsin returns home next weekend to take on Bemidji State.
