GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — An early missed field goal from Mason Crosby did not hurt the Green Bay Packers as they shut out the Seattle Seahawks 17-0 on Sunday to improve to 8-2.
Crosby got his club on the board later in the frame by nailing a 27-yard kick to give Green Bay a 3-0 lead that they would hold on to into halftime. Then in the second half, it would be a pair of touchdown runs from A.J Dillon- one from two yards out and another from three.
Dillon finished the game with 66 yards on 21 carries. But all eyes were on QB Aaron Rodgers who returned from the COVID-19 injury list after being diagnosed with the disease. He finished 23/37 for 292 yards and one interception.
Davante Adams was the leading receiver for the game with 7 receptions for 78 yards on 11 targets. Dillion added two catches for 62 yards.
Seven players had at least one catch in the game. Adrian Amos was the defensive star with one interception, three pass breakups, and three tackles with one assist.
Seattle also got their All-Pro QB, Russell Wilson, back for Sunday’s game. He finished 20/40 for 161 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions.
Preston Smith helped preserve the shutout with a 14-yard sack of Wilson that set up a 3rd and 26 with under 20 seconds to go. That was followed by an incomplete pass on 3rd down. Wilson completed 16-yard pass to Tyler Lockett as a last-gasp effort, but he was tackled short of the line to gain as time expired.
Sunday’s game started with clear conditions but snow developed in the second half.
Tensions grew high as the snow developed. That came to a head with under two minutes to go in the game when Seattle WR DK Metcalf was ejected after throwing punches during his team’s final drive of the game. Additionally, players from both teams were penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play.
With the loss, Wilson falls to 0-5 all-time at Lambeau Field. Sunday’s game also marked the first time he has been shut out in his professional career.
Green Bay will take on Minnesota for the first time next Sunday at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Kick time is set for noon, pregame coverage will begin at 10 AM on WSAU.
BETTING LINES: Green Bay entered the game as a three-point favorite (-3) and covered the spread. The Over/Under was set at 49 points. Needless to say the under hits.
