WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A Wisconsin State Trooper who was in the hospital with COVID-19 has died.
Dan Stainbrook, who worked out of the Wausau post, was hospitalized on October 27 in the ICU at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
He was later placed in a coma and put on a respirator, according to a GoFundMe page that has been set up.
A post from the Wisconsin State Troopers Association says: “Dan lost his battle with COVID late yesterday morning. There are no words for the void we all feel. His wife and daughters need our thoughts, prayers and support now more than ever. Rest In Peace Brother. Car 445, we will never forget.”
Trooper Stainbrook along with another trooper and an inspector were awarded a lifesaving award for their actions in February of 2020.
They responded to a two vehicle crash in Adams County in which the occupants were trapped in their vehicle. When the three men arrived on the scene the vehicle was located at the bottom of a drainage ditch and water had risen to the driver’s side window, the occupants couldn’t escape. Together, the three men were able to get both women out of the vehicle and up an icy embankment. They were transported to a local hospital and they both fully recovered.
