WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — At least two seats are guaranteed to turn over on the Wausau City Council in the April 2022 election.
Alders Tom Neal and Pat Peckham will not seek re-election and have formally filed non-candidacy papers with the city, according to Mayor Katie Rosenberg. “You will for sure see new faces in those seats in District 1 and District 4,” said Rosenberg. She adds there may also be some challenges to sitting alders as well.
Both Neal and Peckham have had a hand in the city’s Parks and Recreation Committee as well- with Peckham serving as chair of the committee for the last few years and Neal serving on the special sub-committee dedicated to planning the city’s first dog park.
Rosenberg notes that there’s still time for candidates to take out papers for the 2021 election and get the required number of signatures. “It’s really not a ton of signatures to get on the ballot for City Council, so I expect to see some more folks turning up.”
There are already two candidates circulating papers to fill Pekcham’s seat. Those are John Kroll and Carol Lukens.
Alders that have filed candidacy include Michael Martens, Deb Ryan, and Lisa Rasmussen.
All 11 seats on the Wausau City Council will be up for election. The final day to turn in nominating papers is January 5th, and the official candidates’ list will be released in the days that follow. Primaries, if needed, will be in late February.
Rosenberg is not up for election in this cycle.
