MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Department of Corrections is suspending all in-person visits as part of a wave of changes to help slow COVID-19 outbreaks within the system.
According to a news release, all in-person visits have been canceled at adult institutions beginning Friday. Video visits with the inmates will still be allowed.
Additionally, all attorney consultations will be conducted through video conferencing.
There are a few exceptions to the new limitations including Religious volunteers, emergency services providers, and contractors working on necessary projects. Those individuals will be required to take a rapid COVID-19 test and must wear an appropriate face covering while in the facilities.
Inmate transport for things like medical visits and transport between facilities will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
The regulations will remain in place through the end of January. The situation will be re-evaluated at that time.
