UNIVERSITY PARK, PA and MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WSAU) — The Badger hockey teams had an unsuccessful weekend, both dropping conference games on Saturday to close out road trips.
The men fell to Penn State 7-2. The Nittany Lions built up a 3-0 lead going into the third period before the scoring would open up, with the two teams combining for six goals.
Carson Bantle scored both goals for Wisconsin in the first three minutes of the final frame, briefly cutting the Penn State lead to 3-2 before the Nittany Lions would pour it on to end the game.
Jared Moe allowed five goals in 45 minutes in net before he was pulled for Cameron Rowe who allowed two goals on 13 shots to end the game.
Wisconsin’s women fell behind 3-2 after one period in a 4-3 WCHA loss to Minnesota. Brette Pettet scored twice in the loss, while Caitlin Schneider added a goal and an assist in the loss. Kennedy Blair took the loss in net, allowing 4 goals on 21 shots faced.
With the two losses to the Gophers Wisconsin falls to 3rd place in the WCHA based on points percentage (40 standings points out of 18 games). Minnesota sits in second with 46 points out of 20 games, and Ohio State tops the league with 43 points in 18 games.
Wisconsin is scheduled to travel to St. Cloud State next weekend for two games Friday and Saturday.
