MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Wisconsin reported the fewest new confirmed COVID-19 cases of 2022 as the omicron variant surge continued to decline.
The state Department of Health Services reported 2,491 confirmed cases on Sunday. That was the fewest since Christmas Day. The seven-day average of new cases fell to 5,926, its lowest level since Dec. 30.
Test positivity averaged 20% for the most recent seven-day period, its lowest level since Dec. 28.
With one death reported Sunday, the seven-day average stood at 31.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 1,333,782 confirmed cases and 11,134 deaths.
As of Monday, 63.3% of the state’s population had received at least one dose of vaccine, with 59.3% having completed the vaccine series.
The seven-day average doses given was 7,587, of which 4,122 were additional or booster doses.
Overall hospitalizations increased slightly on Monday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 1,579 COVID-19 patients, 15 more than on Sunday but 351 fewer than a week earlier. Of those, 318 were in intensive care, down five in a day and 73 over a week.
Of the 1,518 ICU beds in the state, 9.4% were immediately available.
Northeast region hospitals had 192 COVID-19 patients, up 11 in a day but down 11 over a week. Of those. 38 were in ICUs, up two in a day and five over a week. In the Fox Valley region, there were 116 COVID-19 patients, seven fewer than on Sunday and 37 fewer than a week earlier. Twenty-three of those were in ICUs, down three in a day and four over a week.
