MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – COVID-19 numbers in Wisconsin continued to decline from the peak of the omicron variant surge.
The state Department of Health Services reported 4,916 confirmed cases on Tuesday. The seven-day average fell to 5,162, its lowest level since Dec. 29.
The seven-day average test positivity fell to 18.3%, its lowest level since Dec. 28.
DHS reported 26 deaths on Tuesday. The seven-day average dropped to 23, its lowest level since Jan. 17. Since the pandemic began, DHS has confirmed 1,341,808 total cases and 11,254 deaths.
As of Wednesday, 63.3% of the state’s population had received at least one dose of vaccine and 59.4% had completed the vaccine series.
The seven-day average number of doses administered was 6,929, of which 3,634 were additional or booster doses.
Hospitalizations also declined Wednesday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 1,442 COVID-19 patients, 56 fewer than on Tuesday and 389 fewer than a week earlier. Of those, 296 were in intensive care, down 16 in a day and 70 over a week.
Of the 1,512 ICU beds in the state, 8% were immediately available.
Northeast region hospitals had 170 COVID-19 patients, the same as on Tuesday and 27 fewer than a week earlier. Of those, 33 were in ICUs, down one in a day but up three over a week. In the Fox Valley region, there were 97 COVID-19 patients, down five in a day and 33 over a week. Twenty-two of those were in ICUs, up two in a day but down three over a week.
