MADISON, WI (WSAU) — All five Badgers starters passed the 10 point mark as Wisconsin beat Michigan 77-63 on Sunday.
Johnny Davis led all scorers with 25 points and also contributed six rebounds and one assist. Steven Crowl added 11 points, while Tyler Wahl, Brad Davison, and Chucky Hepburn each added ten.
Wisconsin got just 11 points off the bench, led by Jahcobi Neath who scored six.
The Badgers shot an even 50% from the field (29-58) and were nearly perfect from the free throw line (15-16). Michigan shot just 39% from the field.
Center Hunter Dickinson led the Wolverines with 21 points in the loss.
Tempers flared in the handshake line following the game as Michigan coach Juwan Howard could be seen making a comment to Wisconsin’s Greg Gard. During the exchange, Howard was seen pointing a finger at Gard’s face, which led to players surrounding the two. Badgers assisted Joe Krebbenhoft got in between the two and was hit in the face by Howard. The incident is under investigation by the B1G.
“The Big Ten Conference is aware of a physical altercation involving Michigan Head Coach Juwan Howard at the conclusion of the Michigan Wolverines and Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball game. The conference is in contact with both member institutions and is currently assessing the incident. The conference will provide more information and will take swift and appropriate disciplinary action when it completes its review,” the league said in a statement.
Badgers AD Chris McIntosh said he was aware of the incident and has been in contact with the league office, adding that his team had assistants that were “affected and injured,” though didn’t specify if he was refering to Krebbenhoft.
Wisconsin improved to 12-4 in league play with the win, putting them in a three-way tie for first in the league with Purdue and Illinois.
