MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The 34th World Cheese Championship is underway in Madison.
Judging began at Monona Terrace on Tuesday morning. The winners will be announced on Thursday.
The event at Monona Terrace was canceled in 2021. Many of the entrants are from other countries, and travel to the United States was impossible during the COVID-19 outbreak. This year 29 countries are represented, among nearly 3,000 entries in 141 categories. This is the first year that cheese curds are being judged.
There are 14 entries from cheesemakers in Central Wisconsin.
Winners receive handmade plaques showcasing the World Championship Cheese Contest medallion.
