WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A new survey from the Marathon County Metropolitan Planning Organization has launched a new survey to gauge the direction of transportation in the area.
“It allows us to evaluate [our public transit system] against itself and against its peer communities while also looking for any efficiencies that can be gained or opportunities we can take advantage of,” said Marathon County Transportation Planner Andrew Lynch.
Lynch says the survey is conducted once every five years, and results could end up shaping policy for the MPO. “[Looking at] the potential and perceptions of transit in the area, and be able to craft a recommendation for this plan around that.”
Once the data is digested Lynch says they could have draft recommendations ready by June with the MPO then considering final proposals by July or August.
He’s also hopeful that the survey can provide a better view of the desire for public transportation that crosses municipal boundaries, such as routes from Wausau to Weston and Rib Mountain.
The survey can be taken online by clicking here. Paper copies are also available at Marathon County Public Library branches in Wausau, Rothschild, and Mosinee. The deadline to complete the survey is March 21st.
