MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A small business in Merrill is adding a surcharge for its customers to make up for rising gas prices.
Eric Dayton with BlueJay Disposal said he didn’t want to add the charge but as a small business, it was the only way he could handle the higher gas prices which show no sign of slowing down. “Quite a few talks have been going on that, unfortunately, more than likely, this is going to be here for a bit. We don’t want to see that because this affects everybody,” Dayton tells WAOW TV.
The $3.50 surcharge will help keep the business afloat while the cost of filling the tank continues to climb, adding that so far his customers have been supportive of the move.
Gas prices in Central Wisconsin passed the $4 per gallon mark this week. Statewide prices averaged $4.03 per gallon on Thursday, with the highest prices being in Florence County where drivers are paying $4.28. According to AAA 12 of the state’s 72 counties are still seeing prices below $4.
