WESTON, WI (WSAU) — Village leaders in Weston have voted to conduct a phase 2 environmental study on the current Village Hall property as they prepare to move to their new location on Camp Phillips Road.
Village President Mark Maloney told WSAU News that the study will help determine if there are any contaminants at the site, which has been used by the Village since the 1950s, and what kind of remediation may be necessary to clean them up.
Ultimately the Village would like to see the eight-acre property come back on the tax rolls to offset the purchase of the property for the new Village Hall, which will come off the books. Maloney adds that the property on Schofield Avenue has the potential to be a catalyst for something bigger with the proper zoning and development strategy.
The Village has received some inquiries about the property, though Maloney says there are no serious negotiations in progress at this time.
The new Village Hall on Camp Phillips road is currently on track to open this fall. Maloney adds it will be several months before the results of the phase 2 study come back and are digested by the Village Board.
