WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend in the spring of 2021 was granted a new judge this week.
Umberto Lo had his request for substitution approved on Monday, removing Judge Michael Moran from the case. Court records show that LaMont K Jacobson will now handle the proceedings.
No further court action has been scheduled as of Wednesday.
Lo is being held on a $1 million bond on accusations that he shot 30-year old Mai Rue Vang, also known as Lily, in her home following an argument. Vang did have a no-contact order against Lo.
The first-degree homicide charges against Lo carry three modifiers- two for domestic abuse and one for use of a dangerous weapon.
The 25-year-old is also facing multiple other counts related to domestic abuse from nearly a dozen other open cases, which are now cross-referenced with the homicide charges. Those include disorderly conduct, bail jumping, strangulation, and a pair of forfeitures.
