CHICAGO, Ill (WSAU) — The Chicago Cubs got some hits at key times and the Milwaukee Brewers did not as Chicago won the opener at Wrigley Field 5-4 on Thursday afternoon.
Ian Happ had a two-run, two-out double off Jake Cousins in the 7th inning that broke a 3-3 tie. The Brewers had tied the game after Nico Hoerner homered off Corbin Burnes giving Chicago a lead.
The Brewers out-hit the Cubs 10-8 but left nine runners on base. Lorenzo Cain drove in two runs. Willy Adames and Christian Yelich had RBIs. Adames, Rowdy Tellez and Andrew McCutchen had two hits each.
Chris Martin picked up the win while Aaron Ashby took the loss.
The two teams play again this afternoon, weather permitting, pre game show at 12:45 on WSAU.
