MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — The Merrill Fire Department was busy with two structure fires overnight.
The first occurred at about 10:30 at 111 Logan Street. Crews found heavy smoke coming from the front of the house, and were able to knock the flames down from the outside before going inside to extinguish it.
The building was occupied at the time of the fire but all occupants were able to safely escape. No one was injured in the incident. A car parked near the building and a neighboring house did sustain some damage.
The cause of that fire has not been determined.
Then shortly after midnight crews were called to a vacant home on State Street for another report of smoke coming from the roof. Crews were able to put out that fire quickly while also battling heavy rain.
Investigators believe the severe weather had a hand in starting that fire.
