MEDFORD, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of striking a buggy in Taylor County will have a plea hearing in June.
Skyler Opelt was in a Taylor County courtroom on Thursday where a plea hearing was scheduled for June 2nd for charges of homicide by negligent use of a vehicle and four counts of reckless driving- causing great bodily harm.
He’s accused of running into a horse-drawn buggy in the middle of the day while driving on Highway E in the Town of Little Black. A 36-year-old woman was hospitalized and later died from her injuries, several children were also injured in the incident.
Opelt was non-responsive when officers arrived on the scene and had to be revived with Narcan. After coming to he refused to help first responders at the scene, according to a witness.
The 36-year-old also reportedly admitted to doing some sort of drugs before driving that day. He’s being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
