WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau City Council has approved another “No Mow May.”
This year’s relaxing of the city’s lawn upkeep ordinances will not require residents to pre-register or to display a yard sign declaring their participation. This after city officials and residents who participated said the process of registering and then getting a sign in their yard brought an “undue burden” to participation.
Those who still have last year’s sign can display it in their yard to raise awareness about the movement.
Participants will have a seven-day grace period after May 31st to bring their lawns back into compliance.
As was the case in 2021, participation is completely voluntary. No residents will be required to take part or not. Users will be able to register their participation at www.BYOBEES.org to give feedback on their experience with a university study on the movement that’s being conducted.
Now Mow May is a movement that began in the Fox Valley and has been spreading across Wisconsin over the last three years. Residents in Weston, Rib Mountain, Stevens Point, and Wisconsin Rapids can all participate this year as well. Though if you are in those areas, you should check with your local rules as registration and a yard sign may be required to avoid the fine for having an overgrown yard.
The measure passed as part of the vote on Tuesday’s consent agenda, a group of times that’s voted up or down on a single vote.
