MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — In anticipation of a decision by the US Supreme Court that could overturn the landmark Roe v Wade decision, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin has announced that they will be suspending abortion procedures after June 25th.
After that, the organization says it will direct patients to out-of-state facilities or work with them to find alternative care.
It’s been anticipated for weeks that the Supreme Court is preparing a decision that would revert abortion rights to State control. Though it remains unclear when the final word on that decision will come down.
Wisconsin’s abortion law dates back more than 100 years and outlaws all forms of the procedure without exception for rape or incest.
Governor Tony Evers has called a special session of the State Legislature to reconsider the statute, but Republican leaders have indicated that they will gavel in and out with no action.
