STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) – One person is dead after a fire in a Stevens Point apartment building Thursday morning.
Officers received a call at about 7 AM stating that the structure was on fire at 825 Bliss Ave and that one person was trapped inside. Crews arrived to find heavy black smoke and flames coming from one unit in the building.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one unit and did pull one person out of the building. They were transported to a local hospital and later died. Two firefighters were also treated for injuries related to the incident but have since been released.
As of 2 PM crews remained on the scene to investigate the incident and put out hot spots. There’s been no word on the cause of the fire, and the name of the deceased person has not been released.
