PITTSBURGH, PA (WSAU) — A 10th-inning wild pitch from Matt Bush gave the Pirates a 5-4 win on Thursday and a three-game series sweep over the Central Division leaders.
The two sides went to extra innings tied at 3. Milwaukee managed to push their automatic baserunner across when Kolten Wong was hit by a pitch, but that would be the only run of the frame for the Crew.
Bryan Reynolds would then tie the game on a ground-rule double. He would then score the game-winning run from 3rd on the Bush wild pitch.
Milwaukee’s seven hits on the day came from seven different batters including Victor Caratini and Mike Brosseau who each recorded home runs. Hunter Renfroe and Kolten Wong each doubled.
Starter Brandon Woodruff went 6.1 innings and allowed eight hits and three runs (two earned). Bush was tagged with both the loss and a blown save after allowing two runs (one earned) and one hit along with two walks.
Milwaukee falls to 57-48 and are now tied with St. Louis for first place in the Central. The Cardinals swept a doubleheader from the Cubs on Thursday.
The Brewers will return home Friday to host the Cincinnati Reds. Pregame coverage starts at 6:35 on WSAU.
