WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – There were many remembrances across Wisconsin on Sunday, the 21st anniversary of the 9-11 attacks.
At Willow Springs Gardens State leaders Jerry Petrowski and Pat Snyder explained where and how they learned about the attacks happening on the east coast.
“I can still remember I thought I was watching a replay of the plane hitting the tower,” Snyder said. “But it was actually live and the second plane was hitting the tower.”
Runners from all ages took part in a separate memorial in Kronenwetter on Saturday.
Runners competed in the Run for the Fallen in Kronenwetter.
Ashley Chaney and her sister decided to compete in honor of the bravery first responders showed on 9/11. “Thinking about it this morning, I feel like I’m going to struggle today because I’m new,” Chaney said. “But I feel like if all these people can run into a burning building to help people they don’t even know, we can probably run three miles.”
Since its inception the event has raised $123,000 for America’s Fallen Fire Heroes.
