CRANDON, WI (WSAU-WXPR) Most money being put into broadband goes toward building or improving infrastructure. But more than $375,000 going to Forest County will be used to educate people on how to access and best use it.
The Forest County Broadband Committee got the grant from the National Digital Inclusion Alliance. It will be used to hire, train, and support a digital navigator.
Christopher Stark is the Digital Equity Outreach Specialist for the University of Wisconsin-Extension who wrote the grant. He says the person they hire will travel around the county teaching people the skills they need to successfully use the internet. “In some cases to a small group. In other cases, one on one teaching for to help people improve their skills and also how to make good judgement on the internet as to what may be, prepare themselves for safety for what may be a scam as we evolve into the next part of this.”
Forest County was one of 18 groups to receive the grant and the only in Wisconsin.
Stark says the Digital Navigator position will be posted soon to start accepting applications.
