WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A 56-year-old Wausau man is accused of pointing a gun at another driver on Highway 29 in what may have been an incident of road rage over windshield washer fluid mist going from one vehicle to another.
Todd Pranke is facing charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety, negligent handling of a weapon, and disorderly conduct for allegedly pointing a gun at another driver as the two vehicles were eastbound on the highway.
The incident started when another driver used washer fluid to get some bugs off their windshield. The person said Pranke drove through the mist. The two vehicles traded positions along the highway, with Pranke slamming on his brakes once while misting washer fluid from his vehicle.
The driver decided to get away from Pranke and speed up to pass him. As they were passing, they claim Pranke pointed a gun at them.
Pranke admits to pointing an item at the other driver but says it was a cell phone because he thought he might need to record the incident. He did admit to having a gun in his vehicle, which officers did find as well, noting that the firearm would have been within reach of the driver’s seat.
Pranke is free on a signature bond and will return to court on November 7th.
