WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) – Students were briefly evacuated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids after the strong smell of gas filled the building.
It was caused by a boiler that was being turned on at the start of the heating season. One of the boiler’s valves malfunctioned.
As of 11:30 AM, students and staff are returning to class.
School administrators released the following statement: “The Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department and WE Energies have conducted a thorough evaluation of the gas smell and have determined that it was the boiler malfunction causing the issue this morning. All operations have been cleared to resume to normal, and students/staff are returning to the building. Special thanks to all involved who helped us quickly respond to this event today.”
The building is also being checked to make sure the boiler was the only source of the gas smell.
