JACKSON, MS (WTAQ-WRN) – Brett Favre says he’s being smeared in the media over his involvement in a scheme to defraud welfare money in Mississippi.
The former Packers quarterback told Fox News that he’s done nothing wrong, and that he wants to set the record straight. He claims that his only goal was to improve a sports facility at his alma mater.
Favre was connected to a scheme to redirect millions of dollars from welfare in a major public corruption case. He is not facing criminal charges in the case but is named in a civil suit along with dozens of others who benefitted from the scheme.
Court documents show that Favre was messaging the head of the scheme, trying to make sure that money that was coming to him couldn’t be tracked back to the welfare funds.
