EAST LANSING, MI (WSAU) — A familiar face helped Michigan State defeat Wisconsin in two overtimes on Saturday, 34-28.
The two sides went to OT tied at 21 after Michigan State botched a last-second field goal. With no timeouts left, MSU rushed their field goal unit onto the field which forced a bad snap. The holder attempted a pass, but it was intercepted.
Michigan State scored on the first play of the first overtime period and converted the extra point. Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz was nearly intercepted on the Badger’s first play of their half, but the team shook off the near-miss two plays later when Chimere Dike caught a 25-yard pass to match the score.
Wisconsin was up first in the second OT and turned it over on a fumble by Braelon Allen. Michigan State scored to close it out in their half.
Former Badger RB Jalen Berger scored the opening touchdown of the game for MSU. He finished with 59 yards on 16 carries.
Wisconsin was led by Allen who picked up 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Mertz finished 14/24 for 131 yards and two touchdowns, to Dike and Keontez Lewis.
The Badgers fall to 3-4 on the season, and 1-3 in the Big Ten. They return home next weekend for Homecoming against Purdue, kick-off is set for 2:30 at Camp Randall and WSAU’s pregame coverage will begin at 12:30.
