WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of shooting another man in the abdomen will go to trial next summer.
Marathon County Judge Jacob LaMont scheduled a four-day trial for Richard Mason to begin June 13th, 2023 for one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide by use of a dangerous weapon and a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed weapon.
Investigators say Mason was arguing with another man outside a home on Myron Street when he pulled a gun from behind his back and shot him, yelling “you ruined my life.” A witness says he also stood over the victim, continuing to point the gun, before taking off in his vehicle.
Police were able to catch up to Mason a few blocks away and arrested him without incident.
The victim was hospitalized but survived the incident.
The 29-year-old has yet to plea for the felony count of attempted homicide but has previously entered a not guilty plea to the misdemeanor. An arraignment is scheduled for November 18th where he will enter a plea for the felony count, and a final pre-trial conference is scheduled for next March.
Mason is being held on a $250,000 bond.
