MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The man suspected of killing Marshfield native Brittany Zimmerman while she was attending the University of Wisconsin has admitted to the crime.
David Kahl entered a guilty plea to first-degree intentional homicide Thursday morning, closing a case that had been open for nearly 15 years.
The 21-year-old was strangled and stabbed in her Madison apartment in April 2008. Officers say Kahl had been panhandling for money that day in the neighborhood and told police he was high on drugs that day as well.
It’s unclear how Kahl got into her apartment that day. Police say he may have approached at least four different people in the neighborhood while he was begging.
DNA evidence collected from Zimmerman’s shirt matched Kahl, who was arrested in 2020.
A judge set sentencing for January 12th.
