WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A former Wausau babysitter accused of intentionally abusing a child has once again been scheduled for trial in Marathon County.
Merisa Sell was in court on Wednesday where a judge scheduled a two-week trial to begin July 17th, 2023. It’s the second time that the case against Sell has been scheduled to go to trial as she faces three counts of child abuse, including two class C felonies for causing great bodily harm.
Sell is accused of running an unlicensed daycare facility out of her home in 2018 where she allegedly shook a 16-month-old girl, causing bleeding in her brain. Similar accusations against her were found going back to 2015.
Investigators add that Sell’s daycare was not licensed, and she has a history of being fired from other childcare facilities including one previous case where she was investigated for suspected child abuse.
The case had been scheduled for trial in the spring of 2022, but that was canceled at the request of the state. A trial for the charges was also scheduled for 2020, but that was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
