PINE LAKE, WI (WSAU) – A hunter was located near Pine Lake after experiencing a medical emergency in the woods. The hunter called 911 and said he was experiencing shortness of breath and wasn’t sure where he was.
The hunter had a cellphone and told dispatchers he was tracking a deer in the woods and became disoriented.
A dispatcher with the Pine Lake Fire Department was able to relay the cellphone coordinates to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department, who located the hunter about two hours late.
First responders arrived on UTVs and had to walk for an extended period because of thick groundcover in the area. The hunter was taken to an ambulance, and was transferred to Wausau Aspirus Hospital.
His name and condition have not been released.
