WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — This week’s winter storm has postponed a much-anticipated discussion by the Wausau City Council.
Thursday’s Committee of the Whole meeting on the issue of homelessness has been wiped off the calendar for Thursday, with no make-up date announced.
The meeting had been called at the request of two Alders. The agenda included presentations from the County’s outreach task force and United Way Housing task force along with a discussion about both city and county government’s response to the issue.
Some on the city council were hopeful that the meeting would lead to new ideas or possible policy changes that could be discussed at the committee and council level to address homelessness in Wausau. Some had also suggested creating a new department in the city tasked with addressing the issue.
While the meeting includes all members of the city council, no action can be taken.
City leaders are expected to announce a new date for the meeting as soon as possible.
