BENGALURU (Reuters) – Germany is already strongly supporting Ukraine and now other countries must do their part, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said Thursday in the context of meetings of the Group of Seven (G7).
“Germany is already strongly committed and now others internationally must also make their contributions,” Lindner said as finance ministers were meeting in the Indian city of Bengaluru to discuss financial support for Ukraine on the eve of the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko will join the discussions, as well as central bank governors.
Additional financial support for Ukraine is needed and the International Monetary Fund is working in a new support programme, which Germany supports, the finance minister said, adding that there should be a “fair sharing of burdens and risks.”
“It isn’t the task of just a few countries, but of all IMF members,” Lindner said.
The IMF aims to adopt a new aid programme for Ukraine by the end of March, according to finance ministry sources.
