Planners in Stevens Point will consider a change to the city’s zoning that will allow more unrelated or unmarried people to live under the same roof, with conditions.
Under the proposal, up to three unrelated people could live together in a single-family home, provided that at least one of the people owns the home outright. Mayor Mike Wiza says that could mean two people who are in a relationship, but not married, would be allowed to find one roommate.
That would allow the homeowners to have another guaranteed income stream, while also providing affordable housing.
Mayor Mike Wiza says he knows that there are many who have concerns about how the issue could impact housing and the current makeup of neighborhoods, but he hopes that they will listen with open minds.
See more about the proposal in Monday’s Plan Commission packet. Mayor Wiza also spoke about the issue directly as part of this week’s Mayors Monday, which can be found under the local news section.
