WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A former substitute teacher in the Wausau School District has had his trial rescheduled for accusations that he inappropriately touched a student.
Zachary Robins will be tried from September 19th-21st for two counts of first-degree child sexual assault for contact with a person under the age of 13. It’s the third time that Robins has been scheduled for trial. The original date was scheduled for April 2022 but was put on hold. A second attempt was made last February but was wiped out due to a snowstorm.
Investigators say Robins touched a female student through a hole in the back of her top. He said the act was meant as a joke but later regretted it.
The 28-year-old had been hired through a substitute staffing service to work in local districts. According to the service, he passed all of their background checks and other requirements before being hired.
He was immediately terminated after the charges against him were brought forward.
A final pre-trial conference will be held on September 12th.
