WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — An overnight dumping of snow, ice, and rain has made for dangerous travel conditions across much of the region this morning.
WisDOT has closed US 51 throughout Lincoln County due to slick conditions which have made the highway “impassable,” according to an update from the traffic alert system. Additionally, there are numerous cars in the ditch from the intersection of Highway J to Highway S.
The Forest County Sheriff’s Office is also asking residents to not travel unless absolutely necessary due to road conditions.
For the latest conditions, you’re encouraged to check the 511 WI website or call 511 from any landline or cell phone. Those who must travel should keep a winter survival kit with them if they get stranded.
WAOW TV reports that the city of Eagle River has declared a state of emergency due to a whopping 15 inches of snow, asking residents to stay off the roads to allow crews to clear some 15 inches of snow.
