MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Stevens Point man will serve federal prison time for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Lorenzo Miner was sentenced to six years by US District Judge James Peterson on Thursday.
Officers were looking for Miner at a Stevens Point hotel one year ago when they found him running to a car with an AR-15 hidden under a bathrobe. Officers gave him a verbal notice that he was under arrest after he put the gun in a car, but Miner resisted.
That led to a violent altercation between Miner and an officer before he was arrested and Officers seized the AR-15 from the vehicle.
In his sentencing, Peterson noted that both the aggravating facts of the case and Miner’s criminal history warranted a longer sentence.
The 30-year-old pled guilty to the charge last November. His prior felony convictions include burglary, bail jumping, and drug trafficking.
