MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — House Republicans are trying to wring concessions on budget cuts out of President Joe Biden as part of negotiations over the debt ceiling.
Wisconsin’s Scott Fitzgerald says it’s all about whether or not the president is going to come to the table and negotiate on reductions in spending.
“We’re trying to get the attention of the White House and get the president to even pay attention.” said Fitzgerald. “And pretty much same thing with the U.S. Senate, where they’re not really engaged on much of what the house has been talking about.”
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s budget bill would impose new work requirements for public assistance, reduce the number of Internal Revenue Service agents and block Biden’s move to cut student debt.
