WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of cutting a Spectrum cable and knocking out internet service to nearly half of Wausau for an afternoon last August was returned to court on Tuesday after he failed to show up for a hearing last week.
George Wood returned to court on Tuesday where he was once again handed a $500 signature bond covering three cases including one count of criminal damage to a utility and a misdemeanor count of retail theft involving less than $500 worth of goods. While on bond he’s been instructed to have no contact with the victims in those cases including Kwik Trip on North 6th Street in Wausau.

The 56-year-old is accused of cutting a Spectrum cable last August, knocking out service to nearly all customers on the west side of the Wisconsin River in Wausau for an afternoon. The act was caught on a downtown surveillance camera. Police were able to release that footage, and a tip from the public led them to arrest Wood.
Wood failed to show up for a plea hearing on Monday, April 17th, forcing Judge Rick Cveykus to issue a bench warrant for him. He’s now scheduled to return to court on May 23rd and June 6th for pretrial hearings.
