STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A 79-year-old Portage County man has been given a life sentence for one count of homicide stemming from the death of a 92-year-old last November.
Miles Bradly was given the mandatory sentence on Thursday after entering a no contest plea to the charge. Judge Patricia Baker then found him guilty.
Bradley shot and killed Clarance Banks in a home that the 92-year-old shared with one of Bradley’s relatives. During the visit, Bradly got into an argument and threatened to kill Banks. Other housemates tried to intervene, but when Banks came into the room to see what the commotion was about, he was shot and killed.
Officers arrested Bradley at the scene without incident. He’s been held in the Portage County Jail on a $1 million bond.
One victim impact statement was read during Thursday’s sentencing.
Judge Baker did elect to make Bradley eligible for parole after 30 years when he would be nearly 110 years old.
Bradley had previously entered a not guilty plea to the charge and was scheduled to go to trial in August. Thursday’s plea and sentencing hearing was announced earlier this spring, though court officials left the trial on the calendar just in case.
