STEVENS POINT, Wis. – For the second time in school history, the UW-Stevens Point baseball team will host the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver’s) at Zimmermann Field. The last time UWSP hosted the tournament was in 2011 and the field was known as University Field.
The Pointers (29-9) are ranked 13th in this week’s D3baseabll.com/NCBWA poll after winning the WIAC regular season title outright for the 11th time in school history. UWSP will open the tournament on Thursday (May 11) against UW-Oshkosh at 12:00 p.m.

All games will be played at Zimmermann Field (201 Reserve St.). Live stats and live video will be available for all games. Admission for bleacher seating will be $5 per day for all K-Adult with WIAC students (with valid ID) admitted free of charge. Fans should adhere to posted regulations for street and lot parking near the field.
UWSP has won the WIAC Tournament 12 times, including last season, the most by any school. The Pointers are 45-24 all-time in the WIAC Tournament after going 3-0 in last year’s tournament.
This season, the Pointers enter the WIAC Tournament having won 15-straight games. Junior Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) leads the way with a .380 batting average and a team-high 43 RBI. Senior Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis./West) has a team-best nine home runs and holds the program record for games played, at-bats, hits, doubles, runs scored, RBI and total bases.
UWSP’s pitching staff holds the lowest earned run average among WIAC teams at 3.62. Led by all-time saves leader Sidney Ferry (Paw Paw, Mich./Homeschooled), the Pointers have a league-best 11 saves on the season. Nick Carpenter (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills), JD Schultz (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Nick Paulsen (Balsam Lake, Wis./Unity) are a combined 12-1 all with ERAs under 2.20. Paulsen leads the staff with 48 strikeouts.
UWSP head coach Nat Richter notched his 100th coaching victory on Friday and holds a 103-30 career record at the helm of the Pointers. In his third season, Richter has twice been named the WIAC Coach of the Year.
The winner of this weekend’s WIAC Tournament will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament which begins next week.
