MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – According to MLB.com’s transactions tracker, Fernando Abad has signed a minor league contract with the Brewers.
Abad will join the Triple-A Nashville to start. He has a 4.26 ERA in six appearances for the Rockies. Abad’s 30 1/3 innings in Triple-A this year have produced a 3.86 ERA, with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 27.8% to 2.6%. However, he struggled last week after giving up nine earned runs in his last five appearances.
He has played in the major leagues for 11 seasons, previously with the Astros, Nationals, Athletics, Twins, Red Sox, Giants, and Orioles before joining the Rockies this season.
The Brewers will increase the depth of their veteran lefty relief pitchers by adding Abad to the team. He will be able to throw for the Brewers in the postseason if they qualify and he earns a job due to him joining the organization before September 1.
