WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – Officials have finished a search of one of America’s most sacred national parks after it was evacuated on Friday morning following an email containing a bomb threat.
According to ARL Now, around 8:40 a.m., an Arlington County K-9 team was sent to the cemetery to look for the supposed threat.
“Arlington National Cemetery officials and Joint Base Myer Henderson-Hall emergency services are currently responding to a bomb threat. The cemetery is closed to the general public, and funeral services have been delayed until further notice,” the cemetery said in a statement this morning that was posted to Twitter. “The cemetery’s response teams and local law enforcement partners are on site investigating the threat. The public is requested to avoid the area and wait for updates posted to our social media platforms.”
Around 2:30 CST, officials from the park tweeted that nothing suspicious was found and that law enforcement was able to safely clear all areas of the park.
The cemetery is the final resting place for over 400,000 individuals, including veterans from every U.S. war and former President John F. Kennedy and his family. The cemetery will remain closed for the rest of the day, and funerals that were scheduled for this morning will resume this afternoon.
