MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers’ top minor league prospect has moved one step closer to making his major league debut.
The Brewers announced on Monday that Jackson Chourio, 19, who is currently the second-ranked prospect in baseball, has been called up from Double-A Biloxi to Triple-A Nashville.
Chourio has been one of the most dominant players in Double-A baseball this season after hitting four home runs and stealing five bases during his recent 14-game hitting streak. He also became the first teenager since 2005 to join the 20-20 club this season after hitting 20 home runs and stealing 20 bases. Overall, Chourio is hitting.280 this season with 22 home runs and 43 stolen bases.
He is expected to join the team tomorrow as they welcome the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to First Horizon Park for game one of a three-game series. The Sounds are currently leading the International League West Division by 1.5 games over the St. Paul Saints after winning 7 out of their last 10 games.
Chourio will become the organization’s third top-five player to be promoted to Triple-A Nashville this season, joining third baseman Tyler Black and pitcher Robert Gasser. Other players who are joining Chourio in Nashville include Carlos Rodriguez, Tobias Myers, and James Meeker. Meeker has been red-hot as of late, allowing just one earned run over his last 16 innings pitched, as has Myers, who leads all Southern League pitchers in strikeouts this season with 144.
