WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The former Central Wisconsin substitute teacher accused of inappropriately touching two students had the arguments portion of his trial conclude on Wednesday.
Court records show that the prosecution rested their case against Zachary Robins shortly before 11:45 AM. When court resumed in the afternoon, the defense team requested a dismissal which was thrown out.
The defense then called one witness, school resource officer Koua Thao. That testimony wrapped at about 2:30 PM with the defense resting their case.
The jury was excused a few minutes later with instructions to return on Thursday. The defense team then made a second request for dismissal, which was also denied.
Closing arguments and jury instructions are scheduled for first thing Thursday morning.
Thursday is the last scheduled day of the trial. Robins faces two counts of child sexual assault, a Class B felony. Charges stem from incidents that occurred when he was subbing at a Wausau elementary school in 2019, one through a hole in the back of her top, and another on her backside.
