WESTON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Representatives from the Everest Metro Joint Police Commission have confirmed that there is an investigation into alleged misconduct within the department.
In an email to WSAU News, Commissioner David Eisenreich confirmed the investigation, adding he will have no further comment until that is complete. His full statement is below:
There is an ongoing investigation by an outside, independent agency into the allegations against Chief [Clay] Schulz. The investigation is a high priority of the Police Commission and we expect that it will be completed soon. Until it is complete, I won’t be commenting on any part of the investigation.
Jim Palmer, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association, also released a statement to WAOW TV confirming that they are aware of the investigation. Palmer didn’t reveal specifics of the complaint that sparked the investigation, but did note that it is unique because “it involves a complaint filed against the chief by a non-law enforcement employee of the department.”
Palmer added that he believes Schulz should be placed on administrative leave, adding “[as] we further understand it, however, Chief Schultz continues to work every day with the very person that filed the complaint against him. That is inexplicable. At best, it strikes us as a rather clumsy and insensitive approach to some serious allegations of misconduct. Regardless, the lack of transparency is fundamentally disturbing.”
It’s unclear when the results of the investigation will be released. Schulz has not commented on the matter.
