STETTIN, WI (WSAU) — Over 1,700 rural homes and businesses in western and central Marathon County are now hooked up to high-speed internet service through Spectrum.
Those areas include portions of the Towns of Berlin, Brighton, Eau Pleine, Frankfort, Hamburg, Hull, Johnson, and Stettin. Their access comes thanks to a recently completed buildout of Spectrum’s fiber optic network.
Residents in those areas will not only have access to internet service but also cable TV and landline phone service as well.
Spectrum’s Vice President of Construction Matt Brown stated that getting internet service to rural areas of Wisconsin is vitally important to the company, “It’s so important for people who live in rural areas to have access to the internet to keep up things such as virtual schooling and being able to work from home or run a small business and we believe it’s critical for us to help in that process.”
“Marathon County has been pretty challenging for us. We started at the base of Rib Mountain and have been working westward. We’re through the worst of it and we’re starting to make some really good progress in Marathon County,” Brown continued.
The expansion comes as part of the company’s $5 billion investment in underserved communities across the USA. That includes $1 billion in funding won through an FCC auction.
Spectrum’s plans include expanding internet service in nearly half of all states in the coming years.
“Spectrum is bringing gigabit broadband to unserved communities across America through RDOF,” said Matt Brown, Spectrum’s Vice President of Construction, in a press release. “Our investment is making it possible to deliver the high-value broadband, mobile, TV, and voice services now available in these towns. We are providing residents and small businesses superior connectivity at highly competitive prices, backed by a team of skilled local technicians and U.S.-based customer service.”
Officials with the telecommunications giant announced on Thursday at the Stettin Town Hall. US Congressman Tomo Tiffany and Wisconsin Senator Cory Tomczyk joined them.
